Snacking healthy is the way to go. Homemade treats are even better. I like to snack on things like fruits, vegetables, nuts, pretzels and granola bars. The great thing about buying granola bars is that they are usually pretty cheap and easy to pack in a lunchbox, backpack or your purse on the go. The downside to purchasing store bought snacks is all the extra (sometimes not so healthy) ingredients. Spending a little time in the kitchen making goodies can be fun and most importantly healthy.
Now I’m not the biggest fan of cooked fruit so if you want feel free to substitute the cherries in this recipe with chocolate chips or the ingredients of your choice. You may need to adjust the cooking time and temp accordingly. The best part is no matter what you add or substitute, for the most part, it will be healthier than if store bought.
